Lakers 4 Dryden 2
February 3, 2012
Tonight the Lakers were looking to rebound from their 3rd period break down and shoot out loss to the Dryden Ice Dogs last Monday night.
The Lakers Steve Terry quickly gave the home team a 1-0 lead putting a hard point shot past Dryden's Kim Wildhaber at 18:06 of the opening period. Byron Katapaytuk and Jordan Christianson picked up assists on the opening goal. Then at 14:43 Jordan Christianson scored a real highlight reel goal when he broke to the front of Dryden's goal and while fighting off a Dryden defender did a complete 360 spin arama and slid the puck under the Ice Dogs goaltender into the net. The play was set up by Byron Katapaytuk and Jon Carlson. The Lakers Steve Terry would put the home team up by 3 when he scored his second of the period. At the 8:40 mark Blake Boaz and Adam Wensley would set up Terry again at the point and he would let a quick shot go that sailed over the shoulder of Wildhaber.
The only scoring in the second period was at 16:52 when Ice Dogs Tyson Holder would float one over the head and past Lakers netminder Tyler Ampe. Chris Belhumer and Jared Stratford picked up assists on the goal.
The Ice Dogs came out hard in the third and at 17:13 a speedy Diego Breckinridge broke around the Lakers defense and slid the puck between Ampe's legs closing the gap to 3-2. Tyson Holder and Ian Schatche assisted on the goal. That would be as close as the Ice Dogs would come tonight though. At the 8:36 mark of the final period the Lakers Ryan Wildman would be sent on a break away by Jaret LeClair and Josh Scott. Wildman sped in on Dryden's Wildhaber and made a nifty move to his backhand to put the Lakers back up by two goals. There would be no late period come back today as the Lakers would then shut down Dryden for the remainder of the period and hold on to a 4-2 victory.
The Lakers Tyler Ampe faced 34 shots picking up the victory and the Ice Dogs Kim Wildhaber saw 35 shots in the loss.
The Lakers will host the Sioux Lookout Flyers tomorrow night, Saturday February 4th at 7:30pm at the IFK arena.
